about
This track’s aesthetic is tranquil with an energetic undercurrent, yet empowered with the upper end of the vocal range and prowess on show. Water was written as a metaphorical ode to finding your inner peace, strength and ultimately, self. A song that stipulates malleable power; an, allegory for becoming confident and empowered.
The song is accentuated by rich harmonic viola strings, melodic riffs and layered vocals which add an element of beauty and bliss. There is a very ethereal tone to the song, it is intended to be an uplifting story of and the ascending cadenza that crescendos towards the end, really binds the story together.
On a good sound system you will hear the electronic bass and sub that make the song a dynamic clash of genres, in that contemporary Yemi Bolatiwa style; fusing the love from drum and bass with the cinematic orchestral acoustic soul manner.
Recently featured on BBC Radio 1 in January 2021, Yemi Bolatiwa is a prolific Manchester based singer and songwriter. This black British soul artist was born and bred in south London, and has a huge affinity to electronic bass music. You can hear Yemi featured on some of the underground club scenes’ best DJs or as the lead singer of her 7 piece soul, hip hop and electronic outfit. Her music spans themes of empowerment, independence, social justice and of course love. After being long-listed for Glastonbury’s emerging talent competition in 2020, you can be sure that when live music is back on Yemi will be gracing stages across the UK and beyond.
“A versatile vocalist, at home on an infectious pop song or a confessional soul track. There’s an effortlessness and smoothness to her delivery.” – Crack Magazine
lyrics
Drifting like a stream
flowing free so happily
Life is like a dream cause
there is no boundary
Shine the light through me
Colours flow so lovely
Deeper than the sea
All my troubles lie beneath
There’s no holding back
Now that I am strong I’m moving
I got the feeling that
I’ll fine
I’m like the ocean deep
So much more for me to see
A new discovery
Yeah-eeeeee
I am like the water wash the fears away
Powerful in waves
Troubles fade away
I am like the water
Wash your fears way
Powerful in waves
Troubles fade away
Rivers don’t compete
I can run through cavalry
Stronger than the trees lifting roots and building seas
Splashes never seen, keep it all inside of me
Ever so serene there’s no bad impurity
There’s no holding back
Now that I am strong I’m moving
I got the feeling that
I’ll fine
I’m like the ocean deep
So much more for me to see
A new discovery
Yeah-eeeeee
I am like the water wash the fears away
Powerful in waves
Troubles fade away
I am like the water
Wash your fears way
Powerful in waves
Troubles fade away
Heyyyy
